Choosing a Tint ShadeLet the day feel a little lighter.

Choosing a shade is easier when you begin with your priorities. Do you want a different appearance, more visual privacy, or a film with particular performance characteristics? Bring those questions before choosing a percentage.

Understand the percentage on the sample

Visible light transmission, or VLT, describes visible light passing through the material or glazing system. Lower VLT means a darker appearance. The finished result also depends on the glass already on your vehicle, so the film label alone does not describe every outcome.

Compare shade and film construction separately

Two films with similar visible shades can have different specifications. Ask for the exact product information when comparing dyed, carbon, ceramic, or nano-ceramic options. Darkness by itself does not tell you the film’s heat-related performance.

Plan for your own driving conditions

Discuss bright daytime routes, nighttime parking, and the view you need from inside the vehicle. Ask the shop to review current window-specific requirements before confirming the installation plan. Use physical samples and the actual vehicle rather than relying on a screen image.

A FEW USEFUL ANSWERS

Questions you might have.

Is 5% lighter than 35%?

No. A lower VLT percentage indicates a darker appearance. Discuss how the proposed film works with the existing glass.

Can the same shade look different on two cars?

Yes. Glass, lighting, surroundings, and viewing angle can change the apparent result.
